Beef Production to Drop. (John McKissick, February 6, 1998)
Cattle numbers are down by 2% from last year and will eventually mean less beef on the market. However, heavier cattle weights will keep total beef production slightly higher than last year's through March. The reduction in cattle numbers will begin to overcome the increased weight cattlemen are putting on by mid year. Beef production may drop by 5% for the year as a whole. Calf prices are not likely to show much change in price from the spring highs due to the falling beef production.
