Dairy Market Situation. The dairy markets remain very unsettled and this is reflected in volatile futures prices. Milk production is declining seasonally through most of the country, but some marketers are concerned about demand resistance at prices that are higher than they've ever been this early in the year.
An interesting study has just been released from the University of Missouri. On a per gallon basis, milk is $2.55 cheaper than beer, according to a study conducted by Glenn Brown, Missouri dairy specialist. It's also better for you. Brown compared milk, orange juice, soda pop and beer both on price and nutrition. Although soda pop was 10 cents/gallon cheaper, it has virtually no nutritional value. "Milk is the most nutritious buy for the money," says Brown. (Bill Thomas)
